audiovisual urban intervention that uses mapping projection over the trees of Dufferin Grove Park. Its visual concept intends to recreate a rainforest ambience, through the projection of cutout animation of several species of amazonic animals (monkeys, gibons, snakes, jaguars, birds, sloths), accompanied by the soundscape of the amazon rainforest. The whole enviroment is playful and sensory but, at the same time, ghostly and mysterious.

CONCEPT
The artistic concept of Ghost Jungle pursues a link to the curatorial theme “If it wasn’t for the buildings in between”, by allowing the audience to imagine and reflect on nature, animals, plants, spirits and ghosts that came before and their presence or lack of presence in the urban environment we have created. Ghost Jungle doesn’t evoke the indigenous Canadian nature, as would be the obvious choice, but uses the Amazon as a symbol of our relationship with indigenous elements worldwide.
Ghost Jungle also flirts with impossible possibilities, projecting the ghosts of tropical beasts on the cold canadian enviroment.
This collaboration between a Brazilian and Canadian artist aims to create a piece that is situated in Toronto, but deals with universal issues of urbanization and our relationship with the natural world. The mapping projected animations will be in continuous looping during the 12 hour of the Nuit Banche event.

Rogério Nunes was born in São Paulo, Brazil. Independent animator, visual artist and producer. ADRIENNE AMATO (Director/Producer-artist responsible for general production and film registering the project)
Adrienne Amato was born in Zimbabwe and immigrated to Canada in 1978. She has 26 years experience working in the field of mental health in addition to making award winning films and working as an editor. Most recently, she has been curating monthly, multidisciplinary cabarets that bring together musicians, writers, poets, filmmakers and artists to perform in an intimate salon setting as part of the Black Heart Bitches Collective, in collaboration with writers Ibi Kaslik and Holly Luhning. Her films have won numerous awards, played prestigious festivals worldwide and aired on TVO and CBC. They include Forgotten Mother (1989), A Brief Life (1992), First Break, produced by the National Film Board of Canada (NFB) (1997), National Anthem of Nowhere (2007) and Finding Zorba (2009). She is currently editing a music documentary, Argan, on a Berber gypsy band, from footage shot in Marrakesh, Morocco (2011).
